EPSRC Centre for Doctoral Training in Robotics and AI for Net Zero (RAINZ)
Discover the Centre
The Centre for Doctoral Training (CDT) in Robotics and AI for Net Zero (RAINZ) is a 4-year PhD programme that will train and develop the next generation of multi-disciplinary robotic systems engineers.
The CDT unites leading researchers from The University of Manchester, Glasgow and Oxford, to train in both research and commercialisation of Robotics and AI to help revolutionise lifecycle asset management of critical infrastructure, in support of the UK’s Net Zero Strategy.
TechExpert funding for September 2026 entry
As part of the TechFirst skills programme, successful home applicants to the September 2026 cohort of RAINZ CDT will receive a £10,000 top-up to the UK Research and Innovation minimum stipend.
This increased funding applies to all of our available projects.
The RAINZ CDT will train the next generation of robotic systems engineers, who will develop creative and innovative multi-disciplinary skills, enhancing their inter-sectoral mobility. This will be achieved by having a highly integrated, impact-driven, industry co-created training and research programme, with strongly linked interdependencies between the individual research projects.
